How to Apply

How To Apply

The application period for next year’s cohort will be announced soon. Applications are only open to students in Year 10 at the time of application, as the Skyline Program runs for both VCE years. We accept applications via both school nominations and self-nominations, whereby a student or staff member may see the potential for the student to participate in this Program.

Whilst applications are only open to Skyline partner schools (see here for a list of partner schools), the process for a school to partner with Skyline is quite straightforward and does not require a huge amount of commitment on behalf of the school. If you are a student who wishes to apply but your school is not registered as a partner school, you can contact us or approach your school.

It is important to mention that Skyline predominately partners with schools that fall below the ICSEA (Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage) value of 1000, in order to support students who lack access to good educational resources and/or have experienced adversity.

The selection process

1- Applications Open
Documents – Schools will receive an email with instructions and documents for distribution to students.
Application form – Schools will be provided with a digital link, via which students may apply for the program. In case the family does not have internet access at home, a pdf version of the application form can be provided by emailing nancy@skylinefoundation.org.au. Teachers are required to complete sections 8-9 and submit the form.
Supporting documentation – In addition to the application form, applicants must also supply the most recent schools report plus any other additional documentation as indicated within the application form.
Upon submission – Once the application form has been submitted, the school should notify nancy@skylinefoundation.org.au to ensure that it has been received.

2- Applications Due
Incomplete applications – Skyline will take reasonable steps to follow up incomplete applications with the school, however should any part of the application remain incomplete for a reasonable period of time after the applicant has been notified, the application will be rejected.
Late applications – All late applications must be endorsed by the school, with the school making a request, in advance, for special consideration. Late applications will not be accepted 7 days after the deadline, and Skyline must be notified before the deadline expires if applications look likely to be late.

3 – Skyline Review of Applications
The focus at this stage will be on establishing the degree of hardship the student has experienced/is experiencing.

4 – ACER Testing at Schools
The testing is done online and will take 2 hours (including necessary breaks). Schools will receive invigilation instructions and individual student logins via email

6- Zoom Interviews
Skyline will liaise with the school to book interview times which will be conducted via Zoom with two Skyline staff and the teacher.Interviews:
* Will have a duration of 15 minutes each
*Students will answer questions posed by the Skyline interviewers, but will also have the time to share any other information that they wish, as well as ask any questions they may have.
*Students will also be asked to present a CREATIVE PIECE

CREATIVE PIECE
The creative piece can be any representation of the student’s talent. It must be an original piece of work of the student’s own design. The creative piece should provide some insight into who the student is and where their passions lie. It may be presented in any format, but ideally the presentation of the piece and any explanation required will not take up more than 5 minutes off the interview time eg. TikTok, poem, drawing, a musical performance, Powerpoint presentation etc. If it is something like a piece of creative writing, it would best be sent to the interviewers ahead of time.

7- Schools notified of successful candidates
School notification – After undergoing a ratification process with the Skyline Board, schools will be notified of which of their students’ applications have been successful. Student notification – Students will receive an email of congratulations with a link to an acceptance form that must be returned to Skyline by the specified date

8- Induction into the Skyline program
This will take place via Zoom. Student attendance is mandatory, and parents and teachers will also be invited.
